It’s essential that we foster positive digital experiences for girls by equipping them with the tools to navigate digital spaces confidently and safely. With guidance from trusted adults and within supportive peer groups, Girl Scouts develop critical skills such as evaluating online content, managing screen time, and building resilience against cyberbullying and potentially harmful content.
Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) has partnered with Meta to provide volunteers, parents, and caregivers with the resources needed to guide girls in cultivating positive digital habits. This collaboration strengthens girls’ confidence in navigating the digital world while supporting their mental and emotional well-being through grants to select Girl Scout councils, Screen Smart workshops, Digital Leadership badges, and digital well-being resources for adults.
Parents and caregivers play a key role in shaping their girls’ digital habits, but in order to have meaningful conversations about technology, they need the right resources. Research shows that parents who positively engage with their girls about technology are more likely to raise digital leaders. 86% of girls who are digital leaders have parents who discuss technology’s benefits—such as building skills, connecting meaningfully with others, and exploring the world—compared to 74% of other girls. Additionally, girls whose parents are aware of their online activity and ask questions about it are more likely to become digital leaders (53%) than those whose parents do not (36%)*.
This initiative builds on Meta and GSUSA’s earlier collaboration to create the Digital Leadership badges for girls in grades K–12. These badges teach girls to be responsible and safe online, manage their screen time, identify misinformation, and how to spot clickbait while using technology to connect and lead.
Together, Meta and Girl Scouts are shaping a safer, positive, more inclusive digital future. By equipping the adults in girls’ lives with the tools they need, this partnership ensures girls are supported in developing the skills and confidence to thrive online and beyond.
