About the Trip
Step back in time to the 1800s as you board the Niagara, a U.S. Coast Guard certified Sailing School Vessel, as a trainee. Raise and lower the billowing sails, eat meals from the ship’s galley, sleep in a hammock below deck, and keep lookout with the crew. By becoming an active part of the crew, you’ll learn the skills of traditional square-rig seamanship through sailing, maintaining, and living on the ship.
The Niagara is a reconstructed nineteenth-century two-masted, square-rigged vessel—think pirate ship! It is not a luxury sightseeing cruise. You must be an adventure-seeker who is excited to live, learn, and work as a member of a team. You’ll make new friends that last a lifetime as you become an integral part of the team helping the ship make her way from port to port.
