Ambassador Eco Advocate Badge Activity
Become an Advocate for the Environment
Learn about a local issue in nature and how to be an advocate for it.
Activity Details
Time needed: Two hours or more
Materials needed:
- Access to research materials online or in print
Setup: Read news about the environment. This can be environmental newsletters, blogs, or websites. Also, check local news websites for articles about environmental issues in your area. Choose one issue you want to advocate for.
Activity: Start by researching environmental issues online, in newspapers, or from a book from your local library. You could also scroll through “Environmental Topics” on the Environmental Protection Agency’s website to read about issues such as climate change, deforestation, and water pollution.
Consider doing a web search for an "Index of Conservation Articles" to find out what resonates most with you and your community.
Once you find a compelling topic, determine two ways you can advocate for it. Contact an elected official and share your concern, create an informational video about your topic, and share it with friends and family (or write to your local newspaper).
