New Awards for Girl Scouts 11-17

New Silver and Gold leadership awards for Girl Scouts 11-17, including updated requirements for the Girl Scout Gold Award and Girl Scout Silver Award, and the prerequisite awards for each, are being phased in during 2004-2006.

  • The Girl Scout Silver Leadership Award charm will replace the Leadership Award for Girls 11-14 (formerly the Cadette Girl Scout Leadership Award). New requirements will be phased in during fall 2004.

  • The Girl Scout Silver 4Bs Challenge Award charm will replace the Cadette Girl Scout Challenge Pin.

  • The Girl Scout Silver Career Award charm will replace the From Dreams to Reality Award.

  • The Girl Scout Gold Leadership Award charm will replace the Leadership Award for Girls 14-17 (formerly the Senior Girl Scout Leadership Award). New requirements will be phased in during fall 2004.

  • The Girl Scout Gold 4Bs Challenge Award charm will replace the Senior Girl Scout Challenge Pin.

  • The Girl Scout Gold Career Award charm will replace the Career Exploration Pin (for girls 14-17).

During the first few transition years, girls can still follow the old requirements, or they can mix and match old and new activities and awards (as long as they remain in inventory). For example, a girl may:

  • Decide to work on the new Silver 4Bs Challenge, but choose to wear the Challenge Pin for Girls 11-14 to signify completion.

  • Complete the Girl Scout Silver Career Award requirements, but still wear the Dreams to Reality Award on her uniform.

  • Follow the requirements for the new Girl Scout Gold Leadership Award, but choose to wear the Leadership Award Pin for Girls 14-17 on her uniform instead of a charm.

  • Complete the leadership awards leading up to the Girl Scout Gold Award project using the "2001-2003" requirements, and choose not to wear a uniform and substitute the new charms for the pins.

These substitutions last as long as the pins and patches are available. As always, girls should consult with their councils and advisors as they work toward their goals.
