Catching Waves in Costa Rica
Challenge yourself by surfing warm water breaks and helping the endangered sea turtle population!

This 10-day beach adventure will give you the opportunity to learn how to surf or improve your existing surfing skills on famous warm water breaks along the Pacific Coast in Costa Rica. You’ll also take part in meaningful service projects dedicated to saving sea turtles.

Catching Waves is the surf adventure of a lifetime! Experience a variety of water and beach-based activities against the backdrop of Costa Rica’s tropical beauty. Learn about surf dynamics and philosophy, coastal ecology and environmental conservation. Travel to Costa Rica’s world-famous beaches along the Pacific Coast.

Instructors will provide detailed and holistic instruction about how to read waves, tides, and currents. They will give group and personal instruction on surfing - from the first time you stand up on a board to when you catch your first wave. When not surfing, you'll participate in fun beach activities that may include playing volleyball, soccer, yoga and jewelry making.

Participate in a service project to protect endangered sea turtles while spending quality time bonding with other girls and your instructors. Learn about this endangered species while you help with conservation efforts through activities such as nightly patrols, cataloging nests, habitat creation, and (hopefully!) releasing newly hatched baby turtles into the wild.

Enjoy other adventure activities including a day of whitewater rafting, a day of ziplining on a canopy tour and a chance to visit an artisan market in Costa Rica’s vibrant capital city of San Jose.

Girl Scouts will be exposed to Costa Rica Outward Bound’s unique approach to outdoor education and personal development. Woven into all activities are discussions and meetings about leadership. Explore how the challenges you meet in and out of the Costa Rican waves help you confront challenges that life presents.
