Alumnae Story
Surviving Rain and Wild Pigs

I loved camping and luckily I was always in troops that did a lot of it. As an adult leader, we camped a lot also. When I was about eight years old, we had an overnight during day camp. We had a large tent for crafts, etc. and then small pup tents to sleep in. During the evening I was in the large tent when a huge storm came up. The big tent fell down around us, we had to climb out of the opening between the roof and the walls and make it to the barn. Later that night we slept in our pup tents with water streaming into our sleeping bags.

When my parents came to pick me up, my Dad lifted my duffel bag and water came pouring out of it! I found out that my Dad wanted to come and get me but my Mom said I would be mortified if he did that and she was right! It was a huge adventure and I don't think any of us were the worse for wear. I also love the time we came back to our camp site to find that wild pigs had knocked down all our tents and eaten a large quantity of our food! So we slept out under that stars that night which was even better! I could go on and on. I was in scouting for over 25 years. Now my daughter is going to be a Daisy leader for my granddaughter. What a wonderful legacy!
