Mariner Troop Specialized in Aquatic Adventures
By Beth Farmer
Currently of Fort White, Fla.
Troop 666/Girl Scouts of Gateway Council
Most of my best memories associated with Girl Scouts are from being a part of this Cadette Troop. Hellen Twedell (Tweedy) and Marilyn Gressler (Chicky) were the leaders and I will never forget them. I still enjoy seeing them from time to time since I haven't moved too far away. Our troop was a "Mariner" troop. Almost everything we did was aquatic related. We canoed, snorkeled and took a couple of trips white-water rafting and canoeing. The leaders even had their own kayaks. We took annual trips to Key Largo and John Pennekamp State Park to snorkel off the reefs, as well as to Crystal River to swim with the manatees. I remember making my first "dump cake" with Tweedy's guidance.
