I had a chaotic home life, and changed churches a few times growing up. There was not an overriding moral code for our family (well, the golden rule, of course). But I was a Brownie and Junior Girl Scout. So if I wanted someone to absolutely! believe me, I would put up my three fingers and say, "On my Girl Scout's Honor!"
That continued on throughout my adult life. While my spiritual life has developed since then, I still feel that saying "On My Girl Scout's Honor" is a sacred statement that I would never fail.
I've told my daughter (in her fourth year of Girl Scouts) and noticed she uses it now the same way.
I'm a leader now. I realized as I was rushing through the preparations for our bridging ceremony last month that my objective for this coming year will be to enjoy scouting for myself as well as the girls. This doesn't mean doing everything more efficiently necessarily, but doing things more attentively.
I'm thoroughly looking forward to it.
