Alumnae Story
Finding a Best Friend

I credit Girl Scouts with giving me many things, among them my love of the outdoors and my love of travel. But the single most important thing I got out of Girl Scouting was my best friend, Chris.

We lived in the same small town in Connecticut but she went to Catholic school and I went to public school. Well, we all know how kids are . . . we teased the kids that went to Catholic school, called them names, etc. (I am reasonably sure they did the same.) Anyway, we ended up in the same Girl Scout troop. So a long story made short, 30 years later and 1,500 miles between us, our friendship flourishes.

I am now a Brownie leader and when my girls get mean with each other or annoyed because they didn't get to be partners with the girl in their class, or had to partner with a girl they really didn't know ... I tell them the story of the best friend I ever made.
