Alumnae Story
Camp Skit

By RoxAnn McIntosh

I remember when I first became a Girl Scout. I was in the second grade and our troop where I lived had just started. The troop leader's name was Mrs. Plottner and she made Scouting fun. I specifically remember a camp experience that I participated in. Our particular group was responsible for putting on a skit regarding our camping experience. We decided we would play a nasty trick on the leader in this skit and came up with a consequence for this trick. We sang the song "School Days" as the skit was being played out for the first part of song. The second part of the song was sung to another tune that I can't remember the title of. We changed the words and created costumes. Everyone enjoyed the skit especially the leader who was in on it.

Out of all the memories in my Scouting days this was my favorite. For those who would like to use the skit you will need a pretend mud ball and a pair of pants with a large patch covering the seat. The words are:

(Group all together)
Camp days, camp days, dear old golden camp days
Reading, and writing and arithmetic
Taught to the tune of a hickory stick
You were my buddy everyday
I was your friend in every way
You said we'd be best friends always
When we were a couple of kids

(Group all together)
Ten o'clock rest period just begun
(Someone's name) threw a mud ball just for fun!
It hit the leader's (a girl) ear with an awful splat,
The leader turned around and said "Who did that?"
Little pretty (someone's name) in the very first row
(a girl) Raises up her hand and says leader I know!
(Someone's name/ a girl) was told to stand against the wall
But she said "I don't wanna" and she tried to stall
She said "If I stood up there I'd take an awful chance
Ya see there's a great big hole in the seat of my pants!"

Brownies were the best times of my life and I'll always cherish the memories. You may contact me at cute_cuddly_103@yahoo.com for tunes or just reminiscing about our Scouting days. I'd love to hear from others.
