Alumnae Story
Blessed and Proud to Be a Girl Scout

In Girl Scouts I learned so many things and over and over as an adult I am thankful for having that opportunity! I often credit my days as a Brownie, Junior, Cadette, and Senior Girl Scout for making me who I am today. The Girl Scout promise and motto have guided many of my decisions. Still to this day I try and leave places cleaner than I found them…as I learned to do in Scouting. My mother was a leader and volunteer throughout my time as a scout and this also made an impact on me. I, too, hope to follow in her foot steps when my daughter is old enough to join!
I was exposed to many things (rope courses, overnighters, “primitive” cooking out of doors, lashing a table, singing, selling cookies). I gained self-confidence and other skills which have carried over into my career as a teacher and helped me be a mom and wife. I was exposed to life outside my little corner of Northwest Ohio and was privileged to go on two Wider Opportunities (1982's World’s Fair Wider Op (Tennessee) and Sports N More in '84 (North Carolina). I even exchange Christmas cards and have kept in touch with many girls across the nation that I met during these events. Working toward badges, interest projects, Silver and Gold Awards taught me to set goals and see them to completion. The adults who were my leaders along the way modeled so much to me and gave of their time so freely. They are not only role models and heroes to me, they're my friends. I am very blessed to have been a Girl Scout and am proud to continue to be through my lifetime membership! |
