The Journey Exhibition

At the 2008 National Council Session/51st Convention Exhibit Hall, Girl Scout members and visitors explored the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and felt the excitement generated by the premier series of journeys, entitled “It’s Your World - Change It!”  Girls and adults were able to discover their true values, connect with others and take action through participation in fun, interactive, and engaging activities offered within the Journey Exhibition. For examples of how the events unfolded, please view the Journey Exhibition PowerPoint.

Discover
Photo Op:

Girl Scout members and visitors of all ages had the opportunity to have a photo taken with their favorite flower friend from “Welcome to the Daisy Flower Garden”, the premier leadership journey for Daisies.  The “Discover” spot allowed participants to choose a value from the Girl Scout Law.  From young to old (one volunteer had 52 years of adult service) and individuals to groups (one group of over 20), more than one thousand visitors enjoyed this opportunity to think about the Girl Scout Law and pose with a Flower Friend!

Connect
Power Statements
At this station, a girl could type a statement on what she had the power to change in the world and identify who she could connect with to put that change into action.  As each girl hit enter, her info appeared in screen bubbles like the ones shown.  One volunteer shared, “I was there to connect with these wonderful girls. They connected with each other in beautiful ways, coaching one another, offering suggestions, praising and encouraging each other to succeed in this important task.”

Take Action
Pledges to change the world:
Members of the Girl Scout community also had a chance to sign in on the pledge wall in the areas of: water conservation, environmental education, the fight against hunger, and/or reducing their carbon footprint. They were given a bracelet as a reminder of their pledge and as a way to connect with others who are passionate about the same issue. Click here for Council ordering.

During the National Council Session, Girl Scouts made approximately 500 pledges to conserve water, (about 150 specific to shorter showers).  Just think if each of these 500 people shorten their shower time by 2 minutes a day, Girl Scouts can contribute to saving approximately 1,000,000 (one million) gallons of water a year.  Girl Scouts can make the world a better place!
