The 2008 Girl Scout National Council Session/51st Convention took place in Indianapolis, Indiana, October 30 through November 2, 2008, with more than 11,000 adult and girl members and nearly 200 exhibitors in attendance.
The National Council Session brought together individuals responsible for governance of the Girl Scout Movement: more than 1,800 voting members elected by Girl Scout councils and selected by USA Girl Scouts Overseas, members of the National Board of Directors and the National Nominating Committee, past presidents of GSUSA, and other persons elected by the National Council. They reviewed progress on the implementation of the Core Business Strategy and made important policy decisions vital to the continued success of the Girl Scout Movement.
Non-voting members also attended the National Council Session/51st Convention, and for the first time, non-voting members had the opportunity to share their voices about what matters most. Interactive sessions held prior to the opening of the National Council and in separate meetings allowed participants to connect and share stories on how Girl Scouts Can Lead Anywhere. Together, Girl Scouts celebrated accomplishments and envisioned an even brighter future for our Movement and the girls of this nation.
